A qualified Personal Adviser, Karen has a commercial nose and in addition to her core work with young people at school has set up a network of young people and partners who regularly receive emails flagging up local jobs and training opportunities.
A qualified Personal Adviser, with an NVQ L4 in Advice and Guidance, Julie has worked extensively in universal careers guidance. However, her specialism is working as an Intensive Personal Adviser supporting young people presenting as vulnerable, at risk and/or in crisis. Prior to joining Connexions, Julie came from the Mental Health Nursing profession. She has also taught Health and Social Care in college and holds a First Class Honours Degree in Sociology. She has incorporated this knowledge, experience and an ongoing interest in the emotional wellbeing of young people into her work - using a range of strategies such as solution focused and motivational interviewing. As well as holding the Connexions Diploma and working on the Mental Health Breakout Project, Julie has pioneered several successful and innovative approaches. She co-led on the successful community Nutz project, working with vulnerable 16 -19 year old males and also piloted an alternative approach to working with Year 10 students at risk of dis-engagement. She went on to initiate and lead on the now established Group Mentoring Project. Julie has also run community drop-ins, offering information, advice, guidance and support to young people presenting with anything from homelessness to unemployment and requiring help with a job application.
A Qualified to Level 6 in Career Guidance and Development, Rose has a holistic approach to careers advice and helps young people to explore their situation, look for opportunities and strives to break down barriers.
I hold a BSc in psychology and an MSc in Health Psychology (level 1 training towards becoming a qualified psychologist). I have previously worked within several therapeutic settings alongside multi-disciplinary teams and have experience of working with people of all ages that had a range of psychiatric disorders and special needs. I have run coaching psychology sessions on a one to one basis and within a group setting. Coaching Psychology is a facilitation approach that unlocks a person's potential to maximise their performance. These coaching sessions integrated different psychological techniques; motivational interviewing, CBT thinking styles, SMART goals, self efficacy, insight/self awareness etc. I also speak Urdu and Kashmiri fluently.
